The End of an Era for Milk Wood?

Many of you will probably already have heard of the price hikes Lindens are imposing on owners of Open Space sims. The price increase equates to a 67% rise. Loch Lomond, the estate where we are based may well not afford to continue as this rise comes at a time when many of the world’s nations are falling beneath a blanket of recession.

If Loch Lomond continued to run, it is quite likely that I will have to reduce the size of Milk Wood to accommodate the cost. I am already running at a financial loss each month but have been happy to keep Milk Wood going because of the tremendous benefit it affords my members and of course myself – as a person dealing with a disabling illness this has been my lifeline and has given me something to live for each day.

I urge cottage and stall renters to remain renting until January as leaving now will cause me a tremendous burdon. I will keep you up to date with developments and if it means transfering all to another normal sim, well so be it. But Milk Wood and The Guild of UK Writers will continue in some form.

Please go to the Secondlife forums and add your views to the already thousands of posts almost unanimously protesting. I will be adding a protest flag to the notice inworld, so please wear it and let Linden know how ridiculously unfair this is.

Incidentally, it will not only be beautiful Milk Wood that is affected but other beautiful places like the elven and fantasy sims. Graceful lands filled with gentle people. A terrific sadness especially after the recent loss of Faeria.

  1. Oh please say it isn’t true. I am one of the people who just lost my home in Faeria, and I was so thrilled to come to Milk Wood. It is a beautiful place — all that water right at my front door!

Am I correct that Milk Wood is two sims in Loch Lomond? And that you own just those sims? Or are there more? And are any of the Milk Wood sims Openspace sims, or are those elsewhere in Loch Lomond? Who is the owner of the Loch Lomond estate? (sorry for so many questions, but I am new to Milk Wood, and I don’t know how things are structured).

Of course we will do all that we can to continue to rent our cottage. I will not leave unless we absolutely have no choice.

I did not want to wake up to more bad news this morning. :(

  2. I am just back from a meeting in my home region of Winterfell where the talk was “sizing down”. Now I read this. So bad.

I do hope Milk Wood will continue. It would be too much a loss for SL

  3. Hi Princess Ivory,

Yes we are a sim and a half of OPEN SPACE land. The land is part of the LOCH LOMOND ESTATE. Toniehama Merlin is the estate manager.

Don’t worry about your home, if it comes to the crunch and Linden continue with this ridiculous policy then I will buy a half sim in a full sim island and terraform and landscape it as it is now. Milk Wood would be essentially moved to another place and I would do my utmost to make it equally if not more beautiful. I think we have come too far and have too many supporters to give Milk Wood up.

Please all, do help contribute to the relocation fund if you can. I am actively looking for a new place as of today. Any rent would be transfered over if you wish to continue with us and I may even be able to throw in a week’s free rent if funds allow.

Of course you too can help by keeping your ear to the ground and looking out for any possible land options for us.

Another way you can help is by voicing your unhappiness to the blog or anyone else who might listen.

Thanks all, for your support and kindness, as always.

  4. Princess Ivory,Wildstar,

Thank you so much for comments. I am especially unhappy about this and am now especially frustrated that my RL has pulled a whacky. Thank so much and please stay with us; we value you and every one of our residents!

I will prolly do a quickie post about this but there is a JIRA out now regarding this, to quote:

There is actually a JIRA for it, I got an email about it too- to quote:

“PLEASE GO TO THIS WEBSITE AND VOTE ON LINDEN’S NEW PRICE AND TIER INCREASE ON OPENSPACE (VOID) SIMS. IT IS THE # 1 ISSUE BEING VOTED ON
    vote at :
    http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-1776

Midterm tomorrow morning USA time and then I am seriously contemplating being in world to help Harri, despite some other things I should take care of first IRL.

    Oh, Harri dont stress!!:((

  5. Sorry to hear this news. It seems like a radical change without consultation or even prior warning. We also have to worry that LL will run short of funding for further development of SL in current circumstances. Peoples’ SL expenses are “discretionary spend” and as economies worsen, a lot of us will leave or downgrade to free accounts.

If you need a temporary (or even permanent) home for the Guild, I am happy for meetings to take place in my sim, Nanga. it’s not as beautifully landscaped as yours, but it’s pretty and forested and by a lake with a castle. I have a replica of stonehenge in the forest, which could easily be replaced with your reading circle if you wished.

All the best in sorting this out. You make an excellent contribution to SL and we are all appreciative.
